The Caixin China Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for May, released on June 3, stood at 48.3, down 2.1 percentage points from April and falling below the threshold for the first time since October 2024. The manufacturing PMI released earlier by the National Bureau of Statistics rebounded by 0.5 percentage points to 49.5 in May, contracting for two consecutive months but showing a marginal improvement.
